The large scale people migration from Pakistan at the time of partition of India was considered as the cruelest human tragedy in Indian history. But that has been belittled by the current unforeseen and unprecedented exodus of migrant workers, from one state to another, within independent and sovereign India, in the most inhumane and highly deplorable condition during the Covid-19 induced lockdown of the country. These migrant workers had come with dreams of better future to other states in search of job because there are no job opportunities in their own home villages. Lockdown has forced employers to shut down their work places, resulting in en-mass loss of jobs, shelter and money of millions of migrant workers. Landlords have thrown migrant workers out of their rented premises for not being able to pay rent. With no hope of survival in sight in host States, facing hunger, insecurity and uncertainty, migrant workers were forced to go back to their home villages, despite the fact that there are no jobs there, with sad unforgettable memories of...
The author attempts to make out a case in favour of six hours shift working instead of 8 hours or 12 hours to increase employment opportunities and better health care of workers with re adjustment of salaries @ 6 hour working.
