Government of Odisha issued a notification on 24 July 2025 under the Factories Act, 1948 (“Factories Act”) permitting registered factories to employ women between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., subject to strict conditions. These include obtaining written consent from women workers, ensuring compliance with maternity benefit provisions, providing GPS-enabled transportation facilities, separate toilets, well-lit workspaces with CCTV surveillance, crèche facilities where over 30 women are employed, secure boarding and lodging (if applicable), and displaying helpline numbers prominently. Factories must submit a self-certification confirming compliance with all conditions, and any violation will attract penalties under Section 92 of the Factories Act.
