Adverse credit history is a Disqualification in Bank Recruitment: Madras HC

Adverse credit history is a Disqualification in Bank Recruitment

Madras High Court, in P. Karthikeyan vs. The General Manager, State Bank of India & Ors. (W.P No. 11122/2021), upheld a bank’s decision to reject the appointment of a candidate due to an adverse credit history. The candidate’s CIBIL report revealed past loan defaults and a poor repayment record. The Court held that the bank’s action was not discriminatory, as its recruitment policy clearly disqualified candidates with default records or adverse CIBIL reports, irrespective of any subsequent repayment. Therefore, the bank’s decision was found to be valid and in accordance with its rules governing eligibility.
