On July 30, 2025, the EPFO mandated that effective August 1, 2025, the allotment and generation of Universal Account Numbers (“UANs“) will be carried out only through Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on the UMANG App. This move aims to ensure error-free generation of UANs. However, the existing method of UAN generation through employers will continue for certain exceptional cases, such as International Workers and citizens of Nepal and Bhutan.
