Recently, in MD Imran Reza vs. No Broker Technologies Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (W.P. No. 29555 of 2024), the Karnataka High Court dismissed an employee’s plea seeking a permanent injunction to prevent the employer from installing software or accessing files on personal devices. The employee argued that the employer’s requirement to install monitoring software on personal devices resulted in unauthorized modifications and violated employees’ digital privacy. However, the court rejected the petition, holding that a writ petition could not be issued against a private company, as writs typically apply to state or public authorities. Additionally, the court found the employee’s allegations too vague and lacking specificity, making them insufficient for legal consideration.
