Chinese UC Web stops India operations, terminates 90 percentemployees

BENGALURU: Chinese internet firm Alibaba Groupsubsidiary UC Web has suspended operations in India and has terminated almost 90 percentof its 350 workforce in the country, according to media reports.

Several employees in associate, managerial and entry-level positions have been informed verbally over video-conferencing about terminations.. All employees were given a minimum of 30 days notice, sources aware of development told to some media reporters.

A Reuters report on Thursday said India employees working at Alibaba-owned video-blogging platform Vmate were also laid off according to an internal letter dated 15 July.
