Grant Thornton Bharat‘s Women in Business 2025 report, which examines gender diversity in leadership and the evolving role of women in senior management reveals that India is ahead of many developed economies in advancing gender diversity in leadership. Women now hold 36.5% of senior management roles, up from 33.9% in 2024. However, at the current pace, true gender parity remains over 25 years away.
The Report highlights that external pressures on businesses are growing, with nearly 80% of companies facing demands from investors, clients, and regulators to improve gender diversity and disclose progress.Women’s leadership presence is strengthening, with 73.6% of Indian firms reporting an increase in women in senior roles—far above the global average (47%).

Challenges persist at the board level, with only 11.0% of chairperson roles and 12.3% of partner positions held by women.India leads in gender balance disclosure, with 85.9% of companies publicly reporting gender diversity in senior management, compared to the global average of 77.5%.
Despite progress, many businesses continue to take a reactive approach to gender diversity, responding to external demands rather than embedding it in long-term strategy. The report underscores the need for proactive policies, stronger regulatory frameworks, and leadership commitment to accelerate change.
