Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you angry, or feel frustrated or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short, bursts or stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. In today's time with organizations getting more and more competitive, a lot is expected of the employees to do. Timelines and targets may create stress to the employees. Stress is key for survival, but too much stress can be detrimental. Emotional stress that stays around for weeks or months can weaken the immune system and cause high blood pressure, fatigue, depression, anxiety and even heart disease. In particular, too much epinephrine can be harmful to your heart.
Any kind of emotional turmoil would create stress in the minds of the people which impacts the productivity.
Is Stress at work place bad?
Stress can sometimes be good as it brings in the best of you. Stress is a burst of energy that basically advises you on what to do. In small doses, stress has many advantages. For instance, stress can help you meet daily challenges and motivates you to reach your goals. In fact, stress can help you accomplish tasks more efficiently. It can even boost memory. Positive stressors are short-lived, and your body's way of helping you get through what could be a tough situation. Good stress depends on the how you deal with certain situations.
For example, while working in a team it may so happen that the team members can get competitive in many ways which make it stressful to work or if you take this stress positively you become equally competitive. Rewards to colleagues for doing same work as you do and you not being recognized can are stressful.
Stress helps the body prepare to face danger. The symptoms can be both physical and psychological. Short-term stress can be helpful, but long-term stress is linked to various health conditions. We can prepare for stress by learning some self-management tips.
How do you make your work environment stress free?
Acceptance helps a lot in dealing with stress. If you feel someone is not good enough a person, it's your perception. May be that person is good enough for many at work. Accept your percepts and deal with the colleague.
If you feel some persons are trying to always be at your back to show you down, remember it's their basic nature which can't be changed but can be ignored. Try to avoid them and do your work. There are always other co workers whom you could turn on for help if you can't deal with the stress. More importantly make it sure you discuss certain issues with the family members; they know you better and will help you to deal with the stress you face at your work place.
Avoid stressful people
Avoid being with people who cause you stress unless it's your boss. Listen to him/her, don't argue, and don't make the boss feel you know more. Best way to keep the boss happy is to make him/her feel that they are the best. If possible don't work with the colleagues who make the environment stressful. Least you have no option but to work with them and then try to deal it as calmly as possible.
There is no way to avoid stress but there are ways to manage stress. Managing stress depends on your attitude and your own determination to overcome it. There could be many ways to overcome stress at workplace or at least make it less detrimental. Make it a habit of breathing deep. Breathing and relaxation techniques can slow down the system and help you relax. Breathing is also a central part of mindfulness meditation. One more technique to make you strong is to hold the breath for few seconds and eventually for a couple of minutes. Holding the breath for a couple minutes is the strongest way to me determined and uptight.
Set some time of day aside for yourself. Keep your mind happy in a way that helps you deal with all kind of stress coming your way on and off the work place.
Find your own de-stressor, a pet, a hobby, a friend anything which would help you overcome a stressful situation. It's not possible always to have your de-stressor with you but just thinking about what can distress you helps in dealing with a stressful situation at work.
Learn alternative ways of coping with the stress. Consider it as a challenge and learn to accept it. Look at the stressful people and situations in a different manner. Love your work and work place; it would make things a lot easier around.
Manage your time and priorities your activities. Complete important projects first. Whatever is very important and may be stressful, do it at the time when your mind is the most active.
Do your work with all the dedication and never expect anything in return. Not even the rewards.
There is no way to run away from stress but to only mange stress. There are many means and ways to deal with the stressful situations. Yoga, Meditate, Running, and Exercise, Proper breathing would help you in dealing with the stress easily. Workplace stress can be dealt with only loving your work and the place, of course being cordial with the colleagues. Being cordial does not mean being submissive, it's just being as polite a possible. Keep calm and keep stress free.
