It is an acknowledged fact that in the corporate scenario, leadership plays a crucial role to improve communication and engagement. With the onset of the pandemic, employers must step-in and take innovative and proactive steps to motivate and offer an enriching experience to their employees stationed remotely. Leaders have realized the importance of online sessions, in-house mentorship programmes, and bite-sized e-learning modules that enable employees to spare some time in their busy day to upskill and also empower them to hone  their management traits which in turn cultivates a high-performance culture at the workplace

Employee learning and development has attained new importance in the present circumstances. With a massive push towards transformation and evolution in work culture, employers must shift their attention towards innovative tools to boost engagement and productivity that will help motivate, nurture, and retain the workforce.

While fear and insecurity seemed to grip everyone initially, it is heartening to see that steadily everyone in this work from anywhere scenario has quickly adapted to the rapidly transforming ‘phygital’ world. Social distancing, remote learning and remote working are the new world order. Given this situation, leaders should reassess corporate training through the lens of the learning mindset shift, that employees are currently undergoing.

Learning & Development Modules in the Present Shift

Employers who prioritize training for all, show that they are invested in their workforce’s wish to grow. By keeping the workforce stimulated, leadership gives them the tools to improve performance and work on upgrading their skills constantly.

Specialized learning modules are the prime focus as the demand for specialization is always on the rise. The integration of digital into training programs at work allows employees to adapt according to the new reality and be at par in terms of having access to tools to upskill. These learning modules act as positive reinforcement and encourage employees to enhance their capabilities and skill sets, as the work environment transcends from physical into a hybrid or virtual arrangement.

Traditional learning is designed and structured to address specific knowledge gaps. In contrast, the span of collaborative and social learning is vast. This has increased emphasis on e-learning and its forms. Digital learning interventions act as strategic measures to observe improved communication, development, motivation, and engagement. The aim should be to develop a focused set of skills that will help make future-ready leaders. Employees could also be given the facility to pursue a learning program of their choice.

Hard times call for innovative approaches. Inventive employee benefit solutions along with multi-dimensional rewards and recognition programs, is another crucial way to convey the message that the workforce is an asset to the organization.

The present situation and remote working call for review of the methods of learning and development that were used so far. Digital medium has taken the front seat and corporates must use it effectively to advance professional expertise for employees to develop a workforce that is highly skilled, and performance driven.
