A.P Govt exempts IT and ITES Establishments from Certain Provisions of the AP Shops Act

On March 25, 2025, the Government of Andhra Pradesh granted a five-year exemption to all Information Technology (“IT“) and Information Technology Enabled Services (“ITES“) establishments from several provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (“AP Shops Act“), effective from March 25, 2024. The exempted provisions include Sections 15, 16, 21, 23, 31, and 47, pertaining to working hours, holidays, and termination. The exemption is subject to compliance with key conditions, including a 48-hour weekly work limit, paid weekly off, adequate safety and transport for women working night shifts, issuance of identity cards, compensatory holidays for notified holidays, and maintenance of statutory registers and returns.
